Currency and Money Exchange

There is no limit on the amount of money you can bring or take when you visit Japan. However, you must complete a customs declaration form if you transport more than 1,000,000 yen or a currency of your country.
(This includes foreign currencies, checks, securities or any other form of money.)



The unit of Japanese currency is yen.

Coins are available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 yen
and bank notes in denominations of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 yen.

The exchange to the Japanese Yen is possible in an airport, authorized money changer in the downtown and a bank.
The exchange rate changes by the trend of the money market of the day.

As for the bank card, the traveler’s check, are possible to use in the hotel of major cities, a ryokan, a shop.
However, you should prepare for cash because there are facilities which cannot use them any place other than the major cities.



ATMs

Foreign credit and cash cards can be used at Post Office and Seven Bank ATMs all over the Japan. The credit card can use Silas, plus, maestro, VISA electron network in the ATM of 26,000 post offices.

In addition, the expenditures with the overseas publication card were enabled in the Seven Bank ATM in Seven-Eleven of the whole country.



Customs

The tax-free range is an accouterment or separate mail product (To import them after the entrance within six months.). Only for a thing admitted that you use them personally, it become an exemption from taxation within the following list per adult.

(When there are accouterment and both separate mail products, you add both up.)

The total overseas market value of all articles other than the above items must be under 200,000 yen. Any item whose overseas market value is under 10,000 yen is free of duty and/or tax and is not included in the calculation of the total overseas market value of all articles. There is no duty-free allowance for articles having a market value of more than 200,000 yen each or each set.

Electricity

The voltage used all over the Japan is uniformly 100 volts, A.C. There are two kinds of frequencies in use, 50 Hertz in eastern Japan and 60 Hertz in western Japan.
The electric appliance such as a hair dryer, an iron or a shaver can change the voltage becomes convenient.
The case except it has to convert the voltage by a step down transformer.
The 2 flat pin plug is form used only in Japan.
Therefore, it is recommend that you purchase a plug adapter beforehand.
