Get a cellphone
You can use your own cell phone in Japan. Just contact SoftBank Mobile or 3G (third generation) of DOCOMO and request roaming service before coming to Japan.
Be sure to bring your SIM card to insert into your rental or mobile 3G phone.

A public telephone
Public telephones are available downtown and use 10 yen or 100 yen coins or a telephone card.
You can purchase the prepaid telephone card for 1,000 yen at vending machines, a kiosk or a convenience store.
City calls are 10 yen per minute. Rates can bvary depending on the distance of the call.
All domestic telephone charges are reduced on weekends (Saturday & Sunday) and on holidays.

International Call
You can make international call from a gray public telephone written as “International & Domestic Card / Coin Telephone” and a IC card telephone.
However, you may find them in a limited place, such as an airport, a hotel, a main plant because it doesn’t spread so much.
In addition, it is necessary you add the number of the phone company when you dial it.

Toll Free Numbers
The number to begin with 0120 is the toll-free phone number that NTT offers.
It cannot be called from the outside of Japan the toll-free phone number service.
